Urdu Calligraphy, Naeem Rana — 26 June 2010

Saturday 26 June 2010 at The Cross Art Projects

About the workshop:

A unique workshop introducing Urdu Calligraphy in the regional style called Lahori Khat. Islamic calligraphy presents the word and the image together in one visual form. It is simultaneously a visual icon for the word, an index of the calligrapher's hand and a symbol for ideas expressed in language. You will explore the materials and some basic alphabets of this calligraphy style.

Artist and calligrapher Naeen Rana's family has practised the discipline of Lahori khat for seven generations. Rana trained from the age of twelve with his father before attending the famed National College of Arts in Lahore followed by the Victorian College of Arts in Melbourne.
