Dhomala Dhäwu: Makassan Sail Stories

Dhomala Dhäwu: Makassan Sail Stories
Part II of By the Stars, Wind & Ocean Currents

26 June to 31 July 2021
Artists: Ipeh Nur & Margaret Rarru Garrawurra

This new exhibition explores contemporary cultural contact and cultural and economic contact before 1770. Drawing on extensive research on Makassan voyages to northern Australia the exhibition presents a poetic dimension on cultural contact over centuries between great civilisations, as seen through the work of visual artists Margaret Rarru and Ipeh Nur who have incorporated these issues into their work, as documents and re-constructions.

Presented in collaboration with Milingimbi Art and Culture
